Pyramid elements in Abaqus

We have problems exporting our mixed Hex/Pyramid/Tet mesh to abaqus:

Cubit>export abaqus "X:/anf_Subhajit.Dey/2022/ADO/Cubit/Bumper_New_05.inp" overwrite everything
WARNING: The Abaqus output format cannot output elements of type PYRAMID5
Skipping block 10
WARNING: The Abaqus output format cannot output elements of type PYRAMID5
Skipping block 8
WARNING: The model contains 2518 nodes (and their attached elements)
that will not be written to the genesis file.
This may indicate a problem in element block assignments.

From version 2016 on, Abaqus supports pyramid elements as C3D5 or C3D5H. Is it possible to export also the pyramid elements into the Abaqus deck?

Thanks,
Christoph

Hi Christoph,

Thank you for raising this issue. I will ask a task to add C3D5 support for the Abaqus translator. If you could include an image showing the node numbering for a CD35 element, that could speed development.

Thanks,
Karl

Hi Karl,

sounds good, here is the node numbering from the Abaqus manual:

Hi @Christoph,

What support is there for higher order pyramids in Abaqus? We would like to support those as well. My Abaqus manual is pretty outdated so any help you can give is great!

Thanks,
Karl

Hi @karl ,

I have Abaqus 2021 manual. According to this, there is no higher order pyramid available, only the 5 node I sent you.

OK. That is good to know.

Thanks,
Karl
